The band is a separately coated panel meeting the charcoal on a line, not a colour masked and sprayed over one. A sprayed edge always shows a soft line under retail lighting; a panel edge stays sharp.

A fully coloured counter dates as soon as the branding changes. A charcoal counter with a single bright band does not, because the band is one panel and the rest of the fixture is neutral. That is the argument for this build, and it is the reason chains that refresh their identity every few years keep coming back to it.
The band runs horizontally across the front at roughly waist height, in a colour taken from your own reference rather than ours, with the plinth and the top rail staying dark. Everything else is a standard lane: pressed stainless top at 850 mm, cashier at one end, packing bay at the other.

The neutral body is what makes the band work, and it is also what makes the counter outlive a rebrand. Repainting one band is a job; repainting a whole lane is a new counter.

Below the band line
The plinth stays dark so the band is the only bright element. It is also the line a trolley hits, and dark is what keeps that line from showing every scuff.

Store fixtures are light for their size, so a container fills up on volume long before it fills up on weight. What decides your freight is not what one unit weighs — it is what shape the goods are in when they go through the container door. Everything we build leaves in one of three shapes.
Shelving bays, produce islands and bulk cabinets travel as panels — uprights, shelves, back panels and plinths, strapped flat with bubble wrap on every component. They are built up on the shop floor, so the packing list and the assembly drawings travel with the goods.
Trolleys slide into one another and baskets stack. Past the first unit, each extra one adds only its nesting pitch instead of its full length, so the shipped volume ends up a fraction of what the unit count suggests.
A checkout lane is welded, coated and fitted out as one piece, so it is crated whole with padding on the steel. Nothing waits to be assembled at the store beyond levelling it into the lane, and the crate is the counter plus a margin.

That is the expensive end of the freight scale, which is why a counter order is usually put on the same container as flat packed shelving and nested trolleys rather than shipped on its own. A checkout lane almost never arrives alone. These three categories share the front of the store with it, and putting them on one order is what lets a single colour reference run across the whole front, because it becomes one batch of coating rather than three.
The trolley bay sits within a few metres of the lane, and the lane length has to leave room for a loaded trolley to turn out of it.

Send your colour reference and the number of lanes. The band height and depth are set against the lane length so the row reads as one line rather than as a set of unrelated stripes.

It is a panel rather than a paint finish, so a replacement panel in a new colour is a far smaller job than recoating a counter. That is the practical reason chains specify a band instead of a fully coloured lane.
It has to, and that is why the band height is set against the lane length rather than fixed. Send the lane count with the enquiry and the row is drawn as one elevation so the bands read as a continuous line.
Yes, though it starts to compete with itself. If you want more colour than one band carries, the two-colour livery build is the better starting point — it is designed around colour rather than accented with it.
It is what is photographed, but nothing here is fixed: everything is plastic powder coated to any RAL or PANTONE reference and the reference is held across every category on the order.
