Most bulk aisles carry two things that want different fixtures: loose goods that need a bin, and bagged or cartoned goods that just need a shelf big enough to stand on. This island does both. Stepped clear bins occupy part of the run, and the rest of the carcase is opened up into square cubby shelves with a perforated back panel, which is where the sacks go.
A black wire guard rail runs along the top edge. It is there to stop a shopper resting a basket on the bin tops, which is the single most common way a bin lid gets bent. The timber is a honey tone with the grain running vertically, and both ends are radiused with the base ring carried around the curve in black.

Timber bent to the radius
The facing board is bent around the end and the black base ring follows it underneath. The ring is what a trolley wheel actually hits, so it is steel rather than timber.
Open shelves, vented back
The cubbies have a perforated back rather than a solid one. Bagged goods sitting against a sealed panel are the ones that sweat, and the perforation is a cheap fix that most fixtures skip.
Front lip, full length
A dark rolled edge caps the front lip along the whole run. It takes the knocks that would otherwise chip the board, and it gives the ticket strip something square to clip onto.

Bulk islands travel as panels — carcase sides, shelves, bin rails, back panels and plinths, strapped flat with bubble wrap on every component. They are built up on the shop floor, so the packing list and the assembly drawings travel with the goods.

Trolleys slide into one another and baskets stack. Past the first unit, each extra one adds only its nesting pitch instead of its full length, so the shipped volume ends up a fraction of what the unit count suggests.
A checkout lane is welded, coated and fitted out as one piece, so it is crated whole. That is the expensive end of the freight scale, and it is the reason a counter order and a bulk order load so differently.
Because this island ships as panels rather than assembled, the container arithmetic runs on panel count instead of on finished size — which is why two islands of the same footprint can load very differently depending on how many compartments each one carries. We do not publish a units-per-container figure for that reason. It is worked out against your actual order and comes back on the packing list together with the case dimensions, once the island size is confirmed.
A bulk island rarely arrives on its own. These three categories share the dry goods aisle with it, and putting them on one order is what lets a single colour reference run across the whole aisle, because it is then one batch of coating rather than three.
Loose grain and loose dry goods almost always share an aisle, and both want stainless wherever a scoop lands. Ordering them together keeps the two halves of the aisle in one timber.

Yes. The split photographed here is one arrangement rather than a fixed product. An all-bin island and an all-cubby island are both built off the same carcase, and mixing them along one run is simply what most bulk aisles end up wanting.
It is fitted rather than welded on, so it comes off. Stores that merchandise tall product over the bin line usually take it off; stores with heavy basket traffic keep it, because a basket dropped on a bin lid is what breaks the lid.
They can. Stainless steel board goes in wherever a scoop or a wet line touches the fixture, and that includes cubbies carrying anything that leaks. It is a per store plan decision because it is driven by your range rather than by the build.
