A flat-topped island wastes its own middle. Anything more than an arm's length in is out of sight and out of reach, and on a wide fixture that can be a third of the deck. This one pitches the deck up toward the centre so the display steps toward the shopper from all four sides, which turns the middle from dead space into the highest part of the presentation.
The body is dark slatted timber in a black frame, which is the opposite treatment to the pale builds in this category. Dark makes the fixture an object in the room rather than a neutral platform, and it suits a store selling the idea of a market rather than the idea of a warehouse.

Welded, panels inset
The panels sit inside a welded frame that stands slightly proud of them. It gives the island a defined edge from across the department and it takes the trolley contact that would otherwise land on the board.
Every face a front
On a four sided island there is no back to hide a rough corner in. Each corner is finished the same way, which is more work than a wall-side fixture needs and is the reason this build costs more.

This model
Trolleys slide into one another and baskets stack. Past the first unit, each extra one adds only its nesting pitch instead of its full length, so the shipped volume ends up a fraction of what the unit count suggests.
A checkout lane is welded, coated and fitted out as one piece, so it is crated whole with padding on the steel. Nothing waits to be assembled at the store beyond levelling it into the lane, and the crate is the counter plus a margin.
Produce islands ship flat as panels, so the container arithmetic runs on panel count rather than on finished size. Two of the builds in this category carry recorded dimensions — 1200 × 750 × 850 mm for the standard island table and 1200 × 800 × 1300 mm for the tall build — and those two are the reference points a loading plan is worked from. Everything else is cut to your aisle and confirmed on the packing list.
Produce is the wettest, heaviest and fastest turning department in the store, and it rarely arrives on its own. These three categories share the fresh aisle with it.

Send the island width along with the floor area. The pitch earns its cost on a wide island and adds little on a narrow one, and width is the number that decides which you have.

It makes it slightly slower to load and considerably better to shop, because crates have to be set rather than dropped. On a fixture that is restocked once or twice a day and shopped all day, that is a trade worth making.
It is set against the island width and against normal reach rather than being a fixed angle. Send the width and it comes back on the drawing; too much pitch and the crates slide, too little and it does nothing.
Yes, and it reads completely differently — pale recedes behind the produce, dark stands as an object in the room. Choose on the store rather than on the spec sheet, and we will build either.
