The corner is what this counter is built around. The stainless top runs the full length of both legs and carries through the turn in one line, so the counter reads as a single object rather than as two units pushed together — and there is no joint at the corner, which is exactly where spillage collects on a counter built the other way.
At the till position the top is pressed into a deep well with heavily rolled edges, so goods slid across stop in it rather than over it. Along the base runs a brushed stainless plinth band, and behind the counter the base opens into storage compartments with vented panels rather than being closed off — the cashier reaches bags and consumables without turning away from the lane.

Full base line
A brushed stainless band runs the whole base and wraps the corner. It is at trolley height, which is why it is steel rather than coated panel — this is the line that takes contact every day.
Rolled, not folded
The edge is rolled right over rather than folded once. It takes the weight of somebody leaning on it and it keeps the cut edge of the sheet away from hands at exactly hip height.
Charcoal, powder coated
The body is plainly finished so the stainless does the work visually. Where the two meet, the top overhangs slightly, which keeps a wet surface from running down onto the coated panel.

Trolleys slide into one another and baskets stack. Past the first unit, each extra one adds only its nesting pitch instead of its full length, so the shipped volume ends up a fraction of what the unit count suggests.
A checkout lane is welded, coated and fitted out as one piece, so it is crated whole with padding on the steel. Nothing waits to be assembled at the store beyond levelling it into the lane, and the crate is the counter plus a margin.

The trolley bay sits within a few metres of the lane, and the lane length has to leave room for a loaded trolley to turn out of it.

The line does. Depending on the leg lengths the pressing may be made in sections, but the joint is placed away from the corner rather than in it, because the corner is where spillage collects on an L-shaped counter.
So the cashier reaches bags and consumables without turning away from the lane. On a corner counter the cashier is fixed in one position, and anything behind a door is something they have to stop serving to get.
