If you run a supermarket and want to promote something efficiently, the cheapest and easiest thing you can do is put a promotional stand out. It can be a counter, a table, or anything similar that stops people. What separates a stand that works from one that is just a table with boxes on it is not how fancy it is — and after years of building them, it is fairly clear which things actually matter.
Key takeaways
- Give the staff room to work. A stand with nowhere to put anything gets abandoned by the people running it.
- Visibility beats decoration. Colour, size and a clear logo do more than expensive materials.
- A payment position at the stand keeps the sale where the interest is, and doubles as an information point.
Comfortable Space For Staff
The most important thing about an effective promotional stand is that it gives the people running it somewhere to work. Look at any promotion table that is doing its job and it will have compartments in the body: somewhere for the stock, the bags, the leaflets and the staff's own things to live. A table that is only a top surface fills with clutter within an hour, and the promotion stops looking like a promotion.
A safety grill or rail around the top deck does the same job from the other direction. It keeps boxed stock on the table in a busy aisle, so nobody is picking product off the floor every twenty minutes. Both of these are build decisions, and both cost very little if they are specified at the order.
Make It Visible, Not Fancy
The second point about placement is that the stand has to be visible. Our promotion tables come in a range of colours and sizes, which is most of what makes a table attention-getting, and they take a logo or a sticker set easily. It is worth being blunt about the alternative: shops and events often use expensive extra materials to dress a promotional stand, and in practice those additions do very little for the promotion itself.
What does work is size, position and colour. A table that is big enough to read from the far end of an aisle, standing where the walking route passes it, in a colour that is not the same as everything around it, will outperform a smaller stand with better decoration nearly every time.
Expensive dressing on a promotional stand does surprisingly little. Size, position and colour do nearly all of it.
The Payment Position
If you are actually selling from the promotion rather than just sampling, a checkout position at the stand is the most important part of the arrangement. It keeps the transaction where the interest was created instead of sending somebody across the store with an item they will reconsider on the way.
There is a second use for that counter that is easy to miss. In practice a checkout counter on a promotion doubles as an information desk: it is where people ask what the offer is, whether there is another size, and where something else is. Staffing a table with no counter means those conversations happen across a pile of stock.
The Table Itself
Our recorded promotion tables share one deliberate property: they are square. Both dimensioned builds on record, KS-T-02 and KS-T-06, are 1000 × 1000 × 800 mm. A square combines in any direction, so two make a run along a shelving bay and four make a block that is still square and can be shopped from all sides.
The consequence is worth stating plainly, because it changes how you buy. You do not need to decide the shape of your promotion area before ordering. Order squares, and decide the shape weekly. The 800 mm height is 50 mm below a checkout worktop, because a promotion table is reached into from above rather than worked at.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Staff space | Compartments in the body stop the promotion filling with clutter |
| Guard rail | Keeps boxed stock on the table in a busy aisle |
| Visibility | Size, position and colour do more than decoration |
| Payment position | Keeps the sale where the interest is; doubles as an information point |
| Square module | 1000 × 1000 mm combines into runs and blocks, so the shape stays yours |
What is on record for this category
Two promotion tables on record carry dimensions and both are 1000 × 1000 × 800 mm: KS-T-02, recorded as metal sheet with MDF board, and KS-T-06, recorded as metal sheet only. Four further builds are photographed in the range without recorded dimensions.
